Recommendations from
NE Regional Workshop 2nd Edition

The 2nd Edition of the North East Regional Workshop Recommendations has been officially forwarded by the Regional Office, Shillong, to senior officials at the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), including the Additional Secretary, ADG (Forest), DIG (Wildlife), Director (IA Division), and Director (ROHQ), as well as to the Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) and the Director General, Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH). The communication was sent through official letters dated 28th February 2025 and 6th March 2025.

The enclosed report contains the complete set of recommendations, which have been compiled based on deliberations and inputs from stakeholders during the workshop. These recommendations, aimed at strengthening environmental governance and addressing key regional issues, can be found on pages to 37 of the document.

The first workshop in 2019 addressed key environmental and regulatory issues, aligning with the Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 for Northeast India.

The second regional workshop on recent advances in environment & forest laws with special reference to the oil & gas sector concluded at the State Convention Centre in Shillong on January 23rd, 2025, bringing together key stakeholders from government, industry, and environmental sectors.

The workshop reinforced the need for sustainable energy practices, fostering dialogue between industry leaders and policymakers. As India strides towards energy self-reliance, such initiatives play a pivotal role in harmonizing industrial growth with environmental conservation, ensuring a balanced future for the Northeast and beyond.
